WS2811 / SM16703 / UCS1903 Addressable LED Strips
A WS2811 / SM16703 / UCS1903 LED strip is a digitally addressable LED strip that uses external ICs to control its lighting effects. Each IC controls one pixel segment, allowing different segments along the strip to display different colors or brightness levels and create effects such as chasing, flowing and color transitions.
Unlike strips that control every LED separately, this type of strip usually controls a group of LEDs as one pixel. For example, a 12V RGB strip with 60 LEDs/m and 20 pixels/m has three LEDs in each controllable pixel. The number of LEDs per pixel varies by model. These strips are available in 12V and 24V versions for applications such as signage, decorative lighting and architectural projects.

WS2811 strips use an external IC that typically controls a group of LEDs as one pixel. WS2812B integrates the control IC into each LED package, allowing each LED to be controlled separately. Our WS2811 series includes 12V and 24V models, while typical WS2812B strips operate at 5V. Choose according to the pixel detail, voltage and installation length your project requires.
WS2811 is a good starting point when your project or controller specifically calls for WS2811. SM16703 and UCS1903 can provide similar three-channel pixel effects, but their electrical and signal specifications are not identical. For example, the SM16703P and SM16703AP have different specified supply ranges and default output currents, while UCS1903 documentation describes both 400Kbps and 800Kbps data modes.
The best choice depends on the exact IC version, controller and LED strip design. If you need to replace an existing strip, send us the IC marking or controller model; we can confirm a suitable option before you order.
Each pixel is individually addressable, but each LED usually is not. One pixel may contain several LEDs that change together. For example, our 12V RGB model with 60 LEDs/m and 20 pixels/m controls three LEDs as one pixel. If you need control of every LED, ask us about a suitable single-LED-pixel model.
The WS2811 LED strip is more popular than other pixel LED strips because of the below reasons.
a. The WS2811 LED strip has less power drop compared to other LED strips because the WS2811 LED strip comes in 12V or 24V. So, you don’t require more power injection, which will save labor cost
b. The WS2811 LED strip has a single microcontroller. This microcontroller powers 3 LEDs or 6 LEDs per pixel, allowing the led in different places of the led strip to turn to different colors.
c. The color accuracy of WS2811 LED strips is better than general LED strips.
d. The price of the WS2811 LED strip is less than other pixel led strip light
Yes. If the receivers of two LED strips are the same, you can control two WS2811 LED strips with one remote.
So, check the compatibility of the receivers of WS2811 LED strips in case of illuminating big lighting projects with LED strips.
Multiply the strip length by its pixels per meter. For example, 5 m × 20 pixels/m = 100 pixels. If several strips are connected to one controller, include the pixels from every strip when checking controller capacity.
They may. Voltage drop depends on the strip’s power consumption, installed length and wiring. For longer runs, power may need to be supplied at both ends or at multiple points. Send us your layout and selected model so we can advise on the wiring plan.
